A powerful new work of theatre is having its world premiere at a Blacktown multi-storey carpark as part of Sydney Festival.

Penned by Andrea James, Peter Polites and Gaele Sobott, Home Country will see audiences guided through various levels of the car park (and fed a communal feast) to explore the meaning of “home” and our multifaceted national identity.

It tells an urban Sydney story in three interweaving chapters from the point-of-view of an indigenous man, a post-war Greek migrant and a recently arrived Algerian immigrant.

Home Country comes from the talented minds at Urban Theatre Projects (UTP) in partnership with Blacktown Arts Centre. “We anticipate that Home Country will be a potent and affecting experience for audiences, drawing deeply on the personal to reveal the universal,” says director and UTP artistic director Rosie Dennis. “We are thrilled to be working with this calibre of local Sydney artists.”

Home Country plays at the Colo Lane Car Park in Blacktown from Wednesday January 11 – Sunday January 22. Book online here.
