For its 2015 Major Production, Sydney University Drama Society will be presenting a new retelling of the Shakespearean classic, A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

Directed by Bennett Sheldon, one of Australia’s brightest up-and-coming independent directors, and starring members of SUDS, the play is set to update and rework the Bard’s classic, exploring sexuality and gender in a modern context. Set between Athens and the forboding forest, the plays dares to ask if individuals can ever escape the confines of the world they were born into.

As the oldest theatre company in Australia, SUDS has been a vital part of the Australian theatrical scene since its inception 125 years ago. As SUDS’ 2015 Major Production, A Midsummer Night’s Dreamis the result of a year of rehearsing and represents professional-grade performance and production.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream will run from Thursday July 30 to Saturday August 1 at the Seymour Centre’s York Theatre. More information through Facebook.
