Sometimes, a social media campaign delivers the goods.
No, we’re not talking about #kony2012 – this is #greygrey4taytay, a Twitter campaign launched by Belvoir St Theatre director Anne-Louise Sarks to secure permission from Taylor Swift herself for the use of ‘Shake It Off’ in a production opening this week, Seventeen.
Seventeen features a bunch of famous elder Australian actors, including Maggie Dence and Barry Otto, playing a group of spritely teenagers – and getting in step with the music of the times.
Only, there was a problem:
.@taylorswift13 But we’ve just at the last minute been told we can’t have the rights to the song! 6/7 #greygrey4taytay

Enter Tay-Tay to the rescue once again.
Permission granted, @BelvoirSt. Good luck with your opening night 🙂
