If you thought sweet, young Sandy Olsson from Grease was too pure to be pink, then you’ll be surprised by ONJ’s latest incarnation – as an advocate of medical marijuana being available in Australia.

Olivia will be in the country this week to attend a fundraiser for her Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness and Research Centre, and she will be using her time here to champion the use of marijuana in treating the disease, explaining to News Corp. that she uses the plant to aid in her fight.

“I will do what I can to encourage it”, she explains. “It’s an important part of treatment, and it should be available.”

“I use medicinal cannabis, which is really important for pain and healing,” she said. “It’s a plant that has been maligned for so long, and has so many abilities to heal.”

It needs to be pointed out that Newton-John lives in California, where use of the plant is legal with a medical card.

While there is a “pathway” currently available for the legal prescription of medical cannabis in Australia, it’s a messy, complicated process that has resulted in less than 150 patients across the country being given access. Meanwhile, 750,000 Australians continue to use the plant each week. Don’t tell me our Government is backwards and slow to act!
