[MUSIC: Album Review] Lower Dens – Nootropics
If you, like far too many people, slept on Lower Dens’ quietly acclaimed 2010 album Twin-Hand Movement, it’s worth your time to seek it out. [MUSIC: Album Review] Father John Misty – Fear Fun
Father John Misty Fear Fun Sub Pop/Inertia **** Father John Misty is the nom de plume of J. Tillman, the former drummer for Fleet Foxes. [MUSIC: Album Review] Santigold – Master Of My Make Believe
Santigold Master Of My Make Believe Atlantic/Warner *** 1/2 It always seemed like Santi White was more a victim of her aesthetic sensibilities than the master of them. [MUSIC: Album Review] Rufus Wainwright – Out Of The Game
Rufus Wainwright Out Of The Game Atlantic UK/Universal *** 1/2 Wainwright has built a career straddling scenes, his songs being a touch too clever, archly ironic and camp for the mainstream; a touch too bouncily upbeat for an alternative scene fixated on finding the next group of guitar-flaunting ‘indie darlings’. None of which has prevented [...]

[MUSIC: Album Review] The Brian Jonestown Massacre – Aufheben
The Brian Jonestown Massacre Aufheben Riot House/Inertia **** Never a group to make the same album twice, The Brian Jonestown Massacre’s 13th studio album forgoes the more abrasive, alienating elements of the previous two albums (My Bloody Underground and Who Killed Sgt. Pepper?) in favour of mellow, electronica coupled with elements which hark back to [...]
