SXSW 2012: Third Man Records Showcase
It was no surprise to find the line to the Third Man Records showcase unbearably long by the time I made it over to The Stage On Sixth, an hour before the doors opened. If the entire city hadn’t been talking about the promise of a Jack White show all week, the constant presence of his label’s would have been reminder enough. BRAG owes Larry Heath over at about four thousand beers for letting me sneak into the queue that he was somehow near the front of; I was one of the lucky few who got to go to this show, and it was the highlight of the festival.

SXSW 2012: Day Eight
is The Record Store in Austin – it’s often listed as one of the better stores in the States, too – and the legendary institution just turned 30 this year. The focal point of the local music scene, in a city that regards itself as the nation’s live music capital, there was no doubt they’d pull together a killer lineup for their SXSW day parties: The Cult, Blitzen Trapper, Nada Surf, Talib Kweli, Youth Lagoon and Of Montreal were all featured over a huge two days on their outdoor stage.

SXSW 2012: Day Seven – The FOMO Edition
A brief scan through all the other SXSW blogs suggests you can’t report on this festival without at least mentioning how ridiculously exhausting the whole thing is. It seems like a dicky thing to whinge about – This fun is making me tired! There is too much good music to watch! I hate lining up for free beer! My wristbands are on too tight! – but actually, yes, ten days in Austin is an overwhelming endeavor.

SXSW 2012: Day Five Addendum
At the end of Day Five came the launch of Daniel Johnston‘s graphic novel, Space Ducks: An Infinite Comic Book Of Musical Greatness. Hosted by , the night promised sets from the cult hero himself and the people who love him, and the lineup was impressive enough as it was – but this was SXSW and this was Daniel Johnston, so of course there would be surprises in store…
