Metallica’s 2003 album St. Anger has always been an album that split the opinion of critics and fans alike. With the creation of the album being captured by the documentary Some Kind Of Music, it was the first album recorded without longtime bassist Jason Newsted.

Critics both hailed and panned the album, with PopMatters saying “what you hear on this album is a band playing with passion for the first time in years” and Pitchfork saying “Hetfield and Hammett’s guitars underwent more processing than cat food”. The album was critised by fans for a distinct lack of guitar solos, detuned bass tracks, and an extremely questionable drum sound.

Luckily for metalheads around the world, Daryl and Chris from Grace The Skies and Dave from Adust have re-recorded the album from the ground up. The #STANGER2015 project involved re-recording every single guitar track, vocal take and snare hit, as well as mixing and mastering the songs with a more traditional and favourable production.

The release puts a new spin on the infamous album, with the video showing the guys in studio playing the tracks in full. The vocalist does an impressive James Hetfield impersonation, and they were able to shave 15 minutes off the album when remaking it.
