Sydney Has Lost Yet Another Music Venue: Mr Falcon's Has Closed
The Sydney music scene has been dealt another blow, with the closure of Glebe Point Road venue Mr Falcon's.
UPDATE: City of Sydney has issued the following statement:
The closure of Mr Falcon’s was a decision of the property owner.
The City of Sydney has previously contacted the premise about instances of trading outside of approved hours, but did not take any enforcement action and did not ask the property owner to close the premise or cease staging entertainment.
The City supports live music and performances and wherever possible we work collaboratively with venues to resolve issues.
The news was announced quietly this week in a post on the Mr Falcon's Facebook page, which simply stated: "Mr Falcon's is closed until further notice (apologies for any inconvenience)".
A Facebook post by Mr Falcon's staffer Tim Kent explained more.
"Pretty fucking heart-breaking to see yet another iconic live music venue suffocated by Sydney's irrational lock-out laws and frivolous noise complaints," he wrote. "RIP Mr Falcons."
The closure follows the recent news of live music being temporarily stopped at the Harold Park Hotel, also in Glebe, after a single noise complaint, and the fining of the Sydney Opera House for breaching noise regulations at its Florence + The Machine concert.
Mr Falcon's has been an essential supporter of live music in Sydney, hosting live music and entertainment seven nights a week.
