Vance Joy’s ubiquitous ‘Riptide’ has taken out the top prize in the 2014 edition of the prestigious International Songwriting Competition (ISC).

The US-based competition’s Grand Prize was awarded to the Australian songwriter otherwise known as James Keogh, who tops a list of 18,000 entries submitted from 118 countries. He takes out US$25,000 for his troubles, as well as more than US$45,000 in merchandise and services.

And the joy wasn’t confined to Vance, as a total of 62 Australians have been honoured in the awards. San Cisco’s ‘Run’ has been awarded First Prize alongside Kimbra’s pop hit, ’90s Music’ (written with Matt Morris, Mark Foster, Timon Martin and Stephen McQuinn).

Kingswood’s ‘Ohio’ was recognised alongside Thundamentals’ ‘Something I Said’ (feat. Thom Crawford) and more in the Second Prize list, while Third Prizes went to Benjamin Dowd, Lucy Mason and Justin Snowball.
