[FILM: Interview] Maïwenn talks about Parisian police-drama Polisse

By the time it reached Sydney Film Festival this month, Polisse had been cutting a swathe through the international cinema scene for over 12 months. An unflinchingly real drama set inside a Parisian Child Protection Unit, it swept up the Jury Prize at last year’s Cannes, followed by 13 CОsar nominations (the French Academy Awards) and prizes for editing and most promising actress. When it opened in France last October, up against juggernauts like The Help and The Adventures Of Tintin, it maintained top position at the box office for two weeks. At last count, it had made $20 million worldwide – not bad for a film with a budget of $7 million.

[SFF 2012: Review] Polisse

Screening info HERE. Also releasing on June 28, through Curious. If you thought they couldn’t make a comedy about pedophiles, you’re in for a surprise. Polisse isn’t just about pedophiles – there’s incest too. And it’s not just a comedy, but also a drama, a police procedural and a romance. OK, it’s more about the [...]

[SFF 2012: Review] Alps

Next screening Wednesday June 13 at 6.30pm – details and tickets HERE. It’s a funny but profoundly disturbing modern fairytale by writer/director Giorgos Lanthimos (Dogtooth), about middle-class [...]

Mathieu Ravier (The Festivalists)

Matt is programming the Festival Hub, scouted films for Sydney Film Festival’s program at Toronto Film Festival, and is the Artistic Director of Sydney’s Possible Worlds Canadian Film Festival – among other things; just a few reasons to pay attention to what’s on his radar.
