[MUSIC: Album Review] Hunting Grounds – In Hindsight
Since winning triple j’s Unearthed High competition in 2009 under the moniker Howl, Ballarat’s Hunting Grounds have undergone a name change and a seismic shift in musical sensibilities. Gone is the screamy whine of radio favourite ‘Blackout’ from their self-titled 2009 EP; similarly, there’s a noticeable absence of the kind of sneering ‘tude evident on more recent tracks like 2010’s ‘Brothers In Violence’. Instead, the six-headed Victorian beast offer us controlled song craft and endless walls of guitar.
