[MUSIC: Interview] Urthboy
Perhaps the most significant individual force in Australian hip hop, Tim Levinson has spent fifteen years on the frontlines of the industry – as a solo performer, member of The Herd and as manager of Elefant Traks. He’s currently on the road on his first proper national tour in support of the fourth Urthboy solo LP, Smokey’s Haunt, which came out in October last year. It’s taken this long for two reasons: it’s almost impossible to squeeze a headline tour in once festival madness takes over the Australian summer; and he needed to spend some time working out how to translate the show from the traditional DJ/MC setup to a new half-electronic, half-live hybrid.

[MUSIC: Interview] Urthboy
Sydney via Blue Mountains MC, producer, label manager, artist developer and social activist Tim Levinson, better known as Urthboy, is releasing his fourth solo album, Smokey’s Haunt – put together with the help of producers Countbounce and Hermitude, as well as a smorgasbord of vocalists. Despite the fact that Levinson is currently wearing his MC hat as he prepares for a run of shows, it’s hard to escape the reality of how heavily immersed in every level of the Aussie hip hop scene he is.

[MUSIC: Live Review] Public Enemy, Seth Sentry @ Metro Theatre, Friday May 11
Chuck D once said “Radio – suckers never play me!” – but they sure will play Seth Sentry. He raps about scuzzy sharehouses and pretty waitresses and comes off like Public Enemy’s polar opposite. Seth isn’t about to fight the power, but he does show off some mic skills to a sparsely populated room.
